OUR WHY
The U.S. Surgeon General has called the devastating decline in the mental health of young people an urgent public health crisis. According to the CDC, the rates of suicide, self-harm, anxiety and full blown depression are up significantly among adolescents, a trend that actually started BEFORE the pandemic. Needless to say, being isolated for months at a time, unable to see their friends or interact with each other has made the crisis even worse.
Mental health issues for young adults, teens, tweens and even young children is now a top priority for our health care system. When asked what they have lost because of the pandemic, many kids answer “myself.” It’s time to turn this ship around.
Changemaker Communities was created to re-direct the steady decline of happiness, purpose and hope among our youth. By simply taking the time to interact with these kids and young adults, we can help them find their identities, to help them know who they really are… we can remind them of their worth as human beings. We can encourage them to STOP the constant comparisons, the never-ending questions of “Am I enough?”
YES! YOU ARE ENOUGH! In fact, we’re going to show you that you are MORE than enough- and when these kids start thinking of the welfare of others before themselves? That’s when the magic happens! Everyone knows that our planet is in trouble. The environment, our soon-to-be extinct animal population and of course, humanity itself.
It’s hard to watch the news anymore without being pushed or pulled to do something. ANYTHING! Well, it’s our goal to make it easy for your community to take those first steps and hopefully keep the ball rolling from there!
We offer the following four programs to help guide the young people of your community toward lives of meaningful service and purpose:
PROGRAM ONE:
LIFE DIRECTION
Too many adults trudge through life wondering if this is all there is. The answer is a resounding NO! In fact, the best time to prepare for a life of meaning and purpose is when you are young and enthusiastic about everything. Sadly, the pandemic has taken the spark out of many young eyes. Our goal is to bring it back. Through a series of thoughtful questions, participants will go on a journey of self-discovery that will get them thinking about their passions, interests and skills and how they can be used for the greater good. Believing in something bigger than themselves can be life-saving for our young people and we’re going to help them find out what that “something” is!
PROGRAM TWO:
LIFE ACTION PLAN
Finding the career, life plan or “cause” that ignites you is only half of the story. The rest requires action! And sometimes taking that first step is scary. Or intimidating. Or maybe uncertain. Our “Life Action” program takes our participants on a series of action steps that are designed to create a meaningful, purpose-filled future, regardless of their age or life stage. Working on the premise that “action conquers fear”, our hope is to get these kids out of their pandemic-fueled funk and into the exciting world of possibilities!
PROGRAM THREE:
COMMUNITY ACTION
We all know that the world is hurting. From planet earth itself, to our countries, to our communities and individual families, there is an enormous amount of work to be done. But it’s so easy to look the other way and keep scrolling on our phones. It’s time to put down our phones and pick up a cause. But deciding what to do and who to help is only the beginning. We also have to know HOW we’re going to proceed. The “Community Action” Program will provide a solid foundation for your community to work together to make the world a better place.
PROGRAM FOUR:
PARENTING WITH PURPOSE
The pandemic did not do our family relationships any favors….Being isolated at home with toddlers through teenagers has taken a toll on the mental and emotional well-being of parents AND their children/young adults. And honestly, the parent-teen/tween relationship wasn’t the best before Covid-19 showed up at our doors. Improving life at home will go a long way toward helping young adults discover a fulfilling life direction. Our “Parenting with Purpose” Program offers 7 relationship-affirming topics for a truly unique look at a beautiful way to parent children of all ages!
